eBay 99 cent listings

I’ve actually been listing some auctions starting at 99 cents lately. I haven’t done any auctions starting at that for a while as I am usually against them.

A lot of people believe that starting auctions at 99 cents creates excitement and starts a bidding war.  My belief has always been that it doesn’t, and I stand by that belief as I would never list a valuable item at that starting price assuming that it will go to the price that I really want for it.  I always start items at the minimum price that I am willing to take for them.

The items I have been listing with a starting price of 99 cents have been items that I’m happy if they sold for that price.  Now I must admit it has been quite exciting watching what some of these items have sold for.  Just have a look at one of my auctions that started at 99 cents below.

As you can see this auction finished for $152.50 and the bidding was quite fast and furious.  It only took 13 bids to go from 99 cents to $152.20.  So in this case it was an item that was highly sort after right now.

So if you have some items that you don’t have any emotional attachment to give the 99 cent auction a go.  It is a great way to build feedback when you first start selling and it is a great way to ‘recycle’ items that you no longer want but are too good throw out.

Have you had any 99 cent auctions that ended up selling for a large amount.  Leave a comment and share your story!
